animals and creachers artist research: Ken Sugimori

Because the animal drawings that i do often end up looking like cute cartoons, a few people recommended to me that i research some of the artists that create Pokémon. I started by looking up who created the original 151 Pokémon Ken Sugimori. There is a whole team of artists that create the characters now but Sugimori is still largely involved with the creation and design of the Pokémon.  His art is very basic and is made up of outlines and block colour but it works well with the fun designs. Below are a few of his images that i like.

I like the above image because i like the animals that have been mixed. I also like how it has character.

Animals and creachers artist research: Ashley Percival

As our task is to create unimaginable animals i decided to look at Ashley Percival, an illustrator that creates bright animal illustrations. She often has her animals dressed in clothes this adds a bit more colour and fun to the image. 

I love all of the above images because of the cute, quirky look that they have. I think the thing that makes them look so interesting and different is all of the colours and textures that are used. I also like the mixtures of media that are used to create the images. I used to not be a fan of mixing medias but i have recently became a fan of this technique after experimenting with it more myself. 

Animals and creachers artist research: Joan Sallas

I decided to look at a different type of artist to see what other things have been done using animals as the subject. I came across this sculpture artist that creates different things using origami. He started off using paper to create his origami but he now creates his sculptures with napkins and linen. His work is amazingly complex and you wouldn’t think that the sculptures originally started out as a sheet of material. Below are a few of his animal sculptures that i liked the most.

Animals and creachers artist research: Albrecht Durer

Albrecht Durher is an artist that has created a wide variety of paintings throughout his career during the renaissance. Amongst these paintings there is a large veriety of animal pieces. His work is usually realistic and painted or drawn in a very classical way. Durher also created a lot of woodcuts that  were used as a stamp to print out images. 

Above is a painting by Durher entitled Dead Bluebird. The thing i like most about this painting is the deep blue colour used in the wings. I also love how soft and realistic the feathers look. 

The image above is a wood cut print entitled: rhinoceros. I admire this image because of how complex it must have been to create. The tiny details in this print would have been so hard to cut into a piece of wood. i also love how it isn’t exactly realistic and it looks like the Rhino is wearing some kind of armour this makes the image a lot more interesting.

Animals and creatures artist research: Belin

I was searching for some animal artists and actually came across this guy 'Belin' by accident as he is usually a graphiti artist. He is based in Berlin but creates art all over the world. He does realistic art but it usually has a bit of a srange look to it because the colours he uses are so bright. He has only done a few animal pieces so far but I really like them.

I love the first image because of the two animals that he has decided to put together, I think it works really well.  I also like how realistic it looks for graphiti.

The second image that I looked at was a mixture of a wasp, rhino and lobster! A very strange combination indeed but it somehow works well. I think it works so well because of the limited colour pallete that has been used and thats why I like it so much.
