Here is the final image i am really pleased with it although i think it lacks a background. I left it out because in the original illustration there was no background and i thought it worked well. Also backgrounds have never really been my strong point so over the summer i am planning on improving this as it is important to making images feel complete. I think when my illustration is paired with the text of the poem it will look a lot less barren on the background.

Colin West Final image
I am doing the poem a king and a cat for my colin west piece. i had already drawn the male character but hadn't drawn the cat yet so i did that yesterday then composed the image on photoshop. for the cat i used pencil, coloured pencil, white crayon, water colour and fine liner. I decided to do the cat ginger as i thought it would stand out and make the image look fun. I really like how the cat turned out i think it conveys a fat lazy cat quite well. I also really like how the media that i used to create the image works. I think i have found what i like to use most and in the future will be working more in this style and using the same things to create my illustrations.

Illustration test shots
For my current narrative project as i am creating my illustrations in real life and then photographing the drawings in different compositions i couldn't decide weather i wanted my images to be in real backgrounds or drawn backgrounds. One day i was just sat thinking about it when Amy suggested that i try a few of the different options out to help me decide. She lent me her camera so me and a few class mates helped to create some little scenes to do some test shots in. Here are some of the photographs that we took.
I absolutely love how these photos have turned out and i have decided that i am definitely going to have my drawings in real background sets that i have made out of found objects. The next step that i am going to take is to sit down and decide on what objects that i can use to create the different scenes from my story. I will then get all of the things together and create the sets.

Artist research: Wish Candy
i decided to do some research into artists that drew cartoon style girls as i am going to have a girl character within my story. I was looking at my friend Zade's desk and saw some drawings that i really liked so i asked who the artist was and decided to do some research into her.
The artists name is Wish candy (Sashiko Yuen) and she creates lots of different girl character drawings. I really like all of her drawings because they are very cute but at the same time sassy. They are a perfect mixture of cute and sickly colours. All of the Girls that she creates have really funky brightly coloured hair. This along with a few other artists has inspired me to give my girl character brightly coloured hair. Here are a few of her images that i really like

Unicorn Development
When i started to develop my unicorn i decided to draw lost of different head and face shapes until i got it right. I also experimented with a few different colours, I wanted to keep it simple so in the end i decided to stick with black outlines and yellow highlights. Here are the first few sketches that i did.
As i thought this was going to be the unicorn i was going to use i drew the unicorn with a few different expressions to see how it would work. I really like how the expressions turned out.
I then after looking at the unicorn for a while decided that the horn needed to be changed. it needed to be angled more foreword pointing as it looked like it could have jut been a horse wearing a party hat. After doing a few horn tweaks and a bit or research into unicorns, i decided to just place the horn more central on the head use the top unicorn as my final one. I really like the body at the bottom of the page so this is the body shape that i am going to use for my unicorns and my pony.
