Artist research: Cassandra Rhodin

I was looking at a few different illustrators on pintrest when this fashion illustrator 'Cassandra Rhodin' stood out to me. I think it was the unusual way that she draws eyes that drew me in. I have realised as i have being doing artist research that i really love the look of line drawings with a splash of colour that are usually done with ink. I will have to try out this technique a bit more as it is my favourite style to look at.  

In the image above i love how all of the people look so sassy. I think it is because of the way the eyes and lips are drawn. I also really like the line quality used underneath the eye. 

The reason that i like the above image is the way that the hair and dress look it is almost liquid like. I love all of the different grey tones used to show light and dark areas it works really well.

Artist research: Nior Song

I continued looking at artists that drew women to help me out with my own work. I cane across an artist called Nior Song i loved how pretty and whimsical the characters that she draws are. 

i love the subtle colours used and the texture of the hair in the image above it gives the piece a soft calming look.

The thing i like most about the image above is the way that the cheeks have been coloured it looks like the artist has used makeup to get the soft powdery effect. this is a good technique that i will have to try out at some point in the future.

Artist Research: Anja Kroencke

I was doing some research into fashion illustrators, as for my exhibition i am drawing a woman with a particular look and i know that fashion illustrators often draw a lot of stylized women. I came across this illustrator’s website and decided to take a look at the sketchbook part of her website. I was really inspired by the look of her sketchbooks and the way she draws. 

I love the grey tones in the image above i also really like the shape and look of the eyes. I think the composition of this illustration works really nicely and gives the piece a pretty feminine look.

I think the thing i like most about this image is the red water colour hair, it works so well with the simple black body and dress.

Artist Research: Miss Led

i looked at another artist that draws a lot of semi realistic women to get a better ideas of how i can create my drawing. I found this artist Miss Led, she creates a varied range of drawings from cartoon to realistic. I really love how pretty her drawings are. 

 

I chose the image above because i really love how cute the eyes are. They make the character look so innocent.  I also really like the grey background that has been used i think it makes the colours stand out a lot more.

I really like the colours that are used in the image above it makes the picture look so soft and subtle. I also like the lines that are used as they are so lightly drawn, this gives the image a faded look. I also like the eyes in this drawing as they show a lot of character. 

Artist Research: Miminne

I wanted to do some more research on different drawings of eyes. I really love this artists style of black lines and bright colours. I also like the way that she draws it is so simple but so effective. 

I like the simple style of the eyes in the image above. They are drawn in a very clean no fuss way and that’s why i like them. 

  

I chose the image above because it is very theatrical and circus like and this fits with the theme of drawings that i am creating. I love the look of the makeup and the eyes. I like how all of the colours work really nicely together. I am using the same contrast of the purple and yellowy gold in my drawing i think it gives a really nice effect. 

Artist research: Jacqueline Bissett

I had a look at this artist as she uses ink for her drawings. As i am going to outline my drawing in ink i wanted to have a look at her style. I love how she varies her line to show tone i want to try this out with my drawings.

I love the simplicity of the image above. My favourite part of it is the line that represents the back of the leg the thickness and smoothness of it just works so well.  

I chose the image above because i love the stripes on the clothing. I think i like the fact that they aren’t all perfect it suggests where the creases in the top would be. It also gives the drawing a really nice striking look. I also really love the splash of colour in the lips it adds a nice pop of colour.

Artist Research: Yaeko Abe

I wanted to do some research into possible ways to illustrate the face of my acrobat so i looked at some of Yaeko Abe's work as i love the whimsical look that it has. I also really like the fun look that her drawings have to them. 

i like the eyes on the image above they have a lot of character in them. I don't think that this style of eye would work on my image because they are too big but i do like the style of them. I also love the subtle blue used in the hair it makes the image stand out so much more.

I chose the image above because i really like the look of the elongated neck and limbs this is a style that i am going to try out with my drawing for the exhibition. 

Spider Goats trip to the Circus

tonight 2/3 of team spider goat (me and Glenn) and zade went to a circus practice to do some primary drawings of circus preformers. There was a lot of unicyclists, a few acrobats, some juggelers and we even got to watch some unicycle hockey.

Installation research: Hangzhou

as we are planning on having a 3d drawing that looks like it is coming out of the wall i decided to do some research on artists that have done this in the past. I thought this would help us to understand how to draw it better. I found an artist that has done lots of paintings with the sind idea that we have.

above is similar to the idea that we have to have a man stepping out of the frame we were going to try and paint over a physical frame but all of these paintings have the frame painted onto the wall so we decided it would be best to do it like that. 

i love the shadows on the image above  image it makes the image look so real. i also love how the bench is painted when it isnt obvious from a quick glance. 

Installation research Sarah Greaves

I looked at this installation because I loved what the artist did using a sewing technique to create unique scenes. This technique could be used quite easilly with drawing so I thought it would be worth looking at.

I love the piece above because its  just so unique. You'd think its impossible to sew something into a door and if i thought about it i dont think i would have imagined it to look good. I think it works really well though. 

above is another part of the installation where the artist has drilled holes into the sink then threaded blue wool through to represent water. I think this has a great effect and was a really clever Idea.
